Rooted Learning Philosophy
There was a prominent, distinctive tree I came to admire during my time in graduate school. Over the years, I saw it bloom in the spring, lose its leaves in the fall, and stand barren against Kansas blizzards. I saw it survive 100-degree heat waves and thunderstorms. I realized that the tree wasn’t resilient because of its branches or its leaves. It thrived because of what was happening beneath the surface. It had deep and strong roots.
This is the philosophy behind Rooted Learning. Throughout our standard academic journey, we are often taught to focus on the “leaves.” These are the final grades, the test scores, or getting the right homework answers. But when we face a “storm,” such as a difficult exam or subject, those surface-level results aren’t enough. If we haven’t mastered the fundamentals, we cannot conquer future challenges.
At Rooted Learning, we believe in a “First Principles” approach. We ensure our students gain a true, deep understanding of the basics. We don’t just teach the “what”; we teach the “how” and "why." We empower our students to break any complex challenge into its core principles. Our goal is to provide our students with the tools needed to tackle any academic challenge that comes their way.

Meet the Founder
My journey with engineering was far from effortless. As a young learner, I deeply struggled with math. The standard classroom approach simply didn’t resonate with me. I often felt anxious and nervous before exams. I frequently made simple errors because I lacked a true understanding of the “why” behind the concepts. This foundational gap made advancing to higher-level subjects feel like an uphill battle.

Everything changed in middle school when I met a tutor who truly believed in me. They personalized their approach to match how I learned. They didn’t just focus on passing a test or completing the homework, they built my confidence and ensured I had a deep mastery of the material. This transformation didn’t just help me succeed, it made me fall in love with math. It set me on a path to pursue an engineering degree and eventually completing my graduate studies at the University of Kansas.

Having tutored for more than 10 years, I founded Rooted Learning Tutoring because I know firsthand the impact of a dedicated, personalized mentor. As a life-long student myself, I’ve learned that no topic is too complex when approached with a “First Principles” mindset.
Our goal is to empower our students by making them feel heard and encouraging them to tackle challenges with confidence.
